Romantic Travel Terms: 3 Letter Airport Codes

Custom Search

3 Letter Airport Codes:These are designators for airports around the world. You’ll see them on airline tickets and websites, airport arrival and departure screens, baggage tags and printed flight itineraries. Having a 3 letter airport code eliminates the need for airports and airlines to spell out the whole city name in various schedules, listings, etc.

Sometimes the code bears a similarity to the city it represents (BOS – Boston is a good example), and other times there is nothing at all in common between the two (MCO – Orlando). The codes are assigned by IATA, the International Air Transport Association.

We have 3 lists of airport identifier codes to help you quickly identify each city. These lists are of the major airports only, and do not include smaller, regional airports.
