Australia Rules!!

We’ve just returned from Australia, and had an amazing time. Went back to the Gold Coast for the first time in quite a while. Sunny, hot and miles of sandy beaches.

If you spend 3 weeks or more in Hawaii every year, take a good, long look at trying the Gold Coast next time. It might take longer and cost more to get there, but the beaches and swimming are top rate. And, on a day-for-day ratio, it’s probably at least 15% cheaper than a comparable U.S. beach holiday!

Byron Bay, just across the state line in NSW, was fabulous! Cape Byron is the most easterly point in all of Australia, and the stunning coastline and views from the lighthouse are unforgettable. The town itself is a sort of quirky mix of new-age shops, backpacker hangouts and take-away kebab stands!

We also enjoyed ourselves immensely in Melbourne and Sydney again (tell you more about that soon) Check our Australia Vacation page for an update from our trip.

New Pages This Month in Excellent Romantic Vacations:

Europe Vacation
Ireland Tour

Yes, spring is just around the corner here in North America, and many travelers start digging out there European guidebooks and dreaming of another journey “across the pond”. Over the next few months we’ll be adding several pages on European destinations, so watch for them. This month we describe some of the highlights of our travel in Ireland last year.

London Calling

The Tube, Portobello Road, and a picnic lunch from Harrrods – is London for lovers? Our next addition to the site is our London page - look for it in the Europe section very soon!

Car Rental Tip:

If you travel on a tight budget (and who doesn’t?), you probably book the very smallest and cheapest rent a car. Except for special occasions like a honeymoon or anniversary trip, that’s the way to go. Be careful of car rental counter staff trying to pressure you into an upgrade to the next size for a few dollars a day extra. It’s been our experience twice now that they did this when in fact they didn’t even have our reserved compact car on their lot, and they would have had to offer us a bigger car anyway! It never hurts to just stick to your initial reservation, and see what happens when you get the keys!

Hot Deals on Romantic Destinations This Month:

Here's a hot deal directly from Expedia, available now through March 1/2004:
