Here’s some of the questions we answer most often:1. Can you still get a picture of yourself holding a Koala? Yes, the lone Pine Santuary near Brisbane and the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary just outside Surfers Paradise are 2 parks that still allow Koalas to be held. Not as common in the rest of Australia as it once was though. 2. How far is it between major cities in Australia? Far. Sydney to Melbourne is over 550 miles (900 KM’s) and a full days drive. Sydney to Brisbane is slightly longer. And the distance across Australia from Sydney to Perth is almost over 2500 miles (4000 Km). That’s similar to the distance between LA and New York. 3. Is it safe to swim outdoors, or are crocodiles and sharks too common? Crocodiles are only found in saltwater rivers and streams in the far north of Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia. You’ll have no problem in any other area. While very rare, shark attacks have occurred off Australian coasts. No greater or lesser a problem than San Diego or Florida. Jellyfish can be very harmful, but again are restricted to far north Queensland, and are seasonal as well. 4. Are Australian beaches really good? Yes. In Queensland and parts of Western Australia they are GREAT. Nice soft sand, very warm water, and sunshine in copius amounts! 2 dangers to look out for: UV from the sun (very intense down there) and strong rips or undercurrents. Watch for signs that alert to any swimming dangers. 5. How bad is the jet lag to Australia? If you’re travelling from the US or Canada, not too bad at all. If you’re coming from Europe, it will take a couple days to adjust, so use that time to relax and recuperate.
