Some Thoughts on GuidebooksIf you've been to the travel section of your bookstore lately, you'll notice that just about everyone publishes guidebooks these days. So many to choose from, but only room in the carry-on for one! A couple of things caught our attention lately:
Lonely Planet has rejigged/redesigned their entire series. Looks alot different than before. I haven't decided for sure, but I still don't feel all that comfortable with the layout and the location of info. Looks like they're feeling the heat from some of the glitzy-looking competition. Travelled many times with LP and it seems like I don't recognize them anymore! Fodor's has a new series called "See It". One of the most attractive looking guides out there. I tend to like references with at least some color photos, and this new Fodor line-up is loaded with them.
Frommer's has to be one of the most underated travel guide series. Few photos or maps to attract you, but the content is a winner. They're just packed with useful stuff. I love their "10 best" sections. Really tell you what you need to know in a hurry.
