Hello Everybody,

We are back! Hope you are making some getaway plans for the fall and winter. Here's whats happening with us...

Fall Romantic Getaway to Hawaii

Hawaii calls! Maureen and I are all set for our annual fall romantic getaway, and this time we'll be returning to the Hawaiian Islands (Maui and Kauai) for some sun, fun and research for ERV!

We plan on doing some updates on our Hawaii section when we get back, so stay tuned.

"Top of the Rock"

As if New York City needed another romantic spot! A new observation deck in the Big Apple has re-opened up - "Top of the Rock", 70 floors high in Rockefeller Center. The 360 degree views are outstanding, especially of Central Park. One of the most romantic times to be above New York is sunset, and through their website (see below), you can actually reserve your time in advance.

Details:
Open: 8:30 Am to Midnight, 365 days a year
Entrance: Special entrance on West 50th Street, between 5th and 6th Avenues.
Tickets: $14, can be reserved in advance through the website: www.topoftherocknyc.com

Best Caribbean Beach Vacations

The editors at TripAdvisor (7th largest travel site on the web) have chosen their Top 5 Caribbean Beach Vacations. It's an interesting list:

  • Turks and Caicos
  • Puerto Rico
  • Dominican Republic
  • Bonaire
  • U.S. Virgin Islands

The Dominican Republic is still one of the most affordable Caribbean destinations for couples, and for reliably sunny weather, the Turks and Caicos are a good choice.

Busiest Airports This Holiday Season

If you're making holiday flight plans, this might be of interest: Mapquest.com released some info last year on which airport locations were the most searched for on its website for the month of November 2004. While not scientifically proven, it seems to point to which airports could be most travelled to/from for the holiday period around the end of December. Here's the top 5 most searched-for airports:

1. Los Angeles International Airport
2. Chicago O'Hare International Airport
3. Baltimore-Washington International Airport
4. Orlando International Airport
5. La Guardia Airport, New York, NY
(from mapquest.com)

Not any real surprises, but if you are thinking of making a connection through any of these, it might be worthwhile checking to see if a different carrier or different departure time might give you the option of using an alternate airport.

For checking connections and alternate airports, airlines etc, find out which flight websites we use and recommend in our Best Airfare Search Engines page.
