If the UK is on your itinerary this summer, we've got a suggestion for a great little romantic trip from London...

Romantic Breaks in London, UK

Spring and summer bring many romantic travellers to Europe, and London UK is a popular stopover point for tours and trips to the Continent. If you've got a few days in London (and perhaps have already seen the sights of the capital), one popular romantic break in London we recommend is a journey through the Cotswolds, just 100 miles west of London.

You could enjoy this part of rural southwest England in one full day, but a night over in historic Bath or Cirencester will let you really savour the area. Old mill towns like Lacock, Castlecombe and Bibury are gorgeous picturesque Costwold villages lost in time. You can stoll past 500 year-old cottages, sample tea & scones in a quaint bakery, or watch the swans bathe in the river in Bourton-on-the-Water.

A rental car is the ideal way to visit the Cotswolds, and driving time from London is about 2.5 hrs.

Favorite Romantic Spots

Readers often ask us about our favorite romantic spots - B&B's, beaches, scenic places, etc. Here's our current list of just a few:

  • Favorite Romantic City: Quebec City, Quebec, Canada
  • Favorite Scenic Drive: The Big Sur Coast, California
  • Favorite Romantic Restaurant: Tie: Café’ du Marche in Paris, and the Grouse Nest Restaurant on Grouse Mountain, Vancouver, BC
  • Favorite Beach: For enjoying the water and sand, it may not get much better than the coast around Xpuha, Mayan Riviera, Mexico
  • Favorite Picnic Spot: Tie: Anywhere on the Dingle Penninsula, Ireland, and Tunnels Beach, Haena State Park on Kauai's North Shore

5 Extras to Pack, 5 Things to Leave Behind

After arriving, have you ever thought, why did I pack that? Or, why didn't we pack that?

Worth Including:

  • Travel edition of a board game, such as Scrabble (for delays, rainy nights)
  • Mini-sewing kit
  • Rain cape packet (size of a small change purse, unfolds to full-length)
  • An extra collapsable bag for purchases, etc
  • Trip diary

    What You Might Leave Behind:

  • Hair Dryer - check first, but most places (including B&B's) have one
  • Film - if you haven't already, get a digital camera. No film to lug around, and you'll take more and better pictures!
  • Cellphone - expensive roaming charges in other countries, plus your peace of mind!
  • A copy of your itinerary with a friend/relative
