Many romantic travellers roaming around Northern Europe and the Netherlands soon find themselves in Amsterdam. It’s an attractive city full of canals, cafes, bikes and interesting people! We’re sure you’ll agree it’s also a fine destination for a romantic break of a week or just a weekend.

This page will highlight just some of the attractions Amsterdam offers for honeymoons and romantic breaks. We’ve listed some places to stay and things to do, plus a few tips to make your romantic vacation in Holland a little more relaxing.

Amsterdam Romantic Vacations - Save on 3, 4 & 7 Night Packages

Best Time to Visit Amsterdam: Tourist high-season is July and August, so expect higher prices and less availability then. Any other time between mid-April and October is fine (best time for viewing the Tulip fields in bloom is usually end of April / early May).

Romantic Hotels in Amsterdam

Moevenpick Hotel Amsterdam – we “picked the Moevenpick” for a romantic place to stay in Amsterdam – updated luxury rooms, outstanding views of Amsterdam harbour, and very good value for the money! The hotel is located just a short tram ride from Central Station, so travelling to major sights, neighbourhoods and the Canals is easy.

Amsterdam Honeymoon Suite - the Amsterdam Boutique Apartment’s honeymoon suite is equally suited for an anniversary or romantic getaway, and they can prepare a romance package of chocolates, champagne and roses.

Romantic Amsterdam B&B – if your Amsterdam vacation calls for a small, romantic bed and breakfast near the canals, you’ll love the Sunhead of 1617 Bed and Breakfast.

Romantic Things to Do in Amsterdam

Shopping - you’ll find everything from pickled herring to perfume at the Albert Cuypmarkt. Closer to Central Amsterdam, the The Negen Straatjes are great for boutique and one-of-a-kind shops (we did some browsing at a toothbrush store!)
Amsterdam Canal Boat Tours - the Canal Bus has a great hop-on, hop-off 24 hr ticket for exploring Amsterdam by water. Or you can get even more romantic with the Lovers Redlight Candlelight Cruise, a 2 hour evening cruise with wine & cheese, plus a guided walk through the Amsterdam’s Red Light district.
Museum Hopping – be sure not to miss the Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank House (very sobering and well done) as well as Amsterdam’s famous Rijksmuseum.
Bike Tours - rent 2 bikes, or even a tandem bicycle for two! Rental info is available at most hotel counters and B&B front desks.
Romantic Amsterdam Daytrip - north of Amsterdam, wander down the lanes of the fishing village of Volendam. And just a little further down the road, the Windmills of Schermerhorn are a great spot to see these landmarks of Dutch culture up close.

Tips for Amsterdam Vacation Travel

Driving – we really don't recommend it in Amsterdam for tourists. Cars, bikes, pedestrians and trams dart in and out everywhere. Plus, parking is expensive and difficult to find. Best to stick to walking, bike rentals, public transport or the canal boats.

Transfers from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) to Central Amsterdam - located just downstairs under the Schiphol Plaza Shopping Centre. Trains take 15 minutes to get to the city center for a reasonable € 3.80. Some hotels offer free shuttles for their guests from AMS to the city as well.
