Welcome to our section on wedding travel packages and ideas. We hope to inform as well as inspire all of you romantics.

We’ve never given much thought to destination/vacation weddings. Our own wedding was traditional and held in a small town.

But a few years ago, our friends Chris & Corinna got married in the spectacular Canadian Rockies near Waterton National Park, Alberta, Canada. As two of only thirty invited guests, we were thrilled to be a part of this Canadian Rockies destination wedding.

Corinna’s wedding ceremony and tea took place at the gorgeous 75-yr old Prince of Wales Hotel. The hotel staff are great at hosting weddings. My friend has always been very prudent with her budget, and managed to plan a beautiful yet inexpensive wedding package.

The ceremony was held just outside the hotel, with the mountains and glacier lakes providing a spectacular backdrop. A single flutist played lovely music as the bride slowly made her way down the walkway leading from the back of the hotel to her place beside her husband-to-be. Far below us, as the cold lake lapped at the base of the rugged mountains, a brown bear could be seen catching a fish!

After the ceremony, high tea was served in the hotel. The following morning, the guests met for a hike though the park before making our way home.

It was a wonderful experience for all of us and made us a believer in planning travel weddings. They are:

• Memorable: Having your wedding in an unusual or tropical location makes a meaningful day even more unforgettable.

• Practical: In many instances, the hotel/resort looks after everything you need. This adds up to much less stress on the big day.
