A Romantic Sydney Vacation
Romantic Sights, Things to Do, Accommodation and Restaurants in Sydney, Australia.

A romantic Sydney weekend or getaway is a great start to a trip to Australia, or a exciting destination itself!
Terrific beaches, great city walks, one of the most beautiful natural harbors anywhere, shopping galore, and a selection of world class restaurants that's one of the best in the southern hemisphere make Sydney a place you'll come back to.
From the 3 trips to Sydney we've made, here's our collection of the best places to see in Sydney for couples:
Sydney Harbor
The harbor is one of the best attractions in Sydney, and much of it is free to enjoy! For a fun and cheap romantic excursion, catch the ferry to Manly for a nice view from the water and a chance to explore the shops and beaches of this north shore community.
The Sydney Harbor Bridge is a beautiful structure that actually looks better the closer you get to it! You can walk across it for great city and harbor views, or walk over it with other climbers on the scale-the-bridge tours offered by BridgeClimb.
Sydney Opera House can be admired from the outside at almost any angle, or inside by either a guided tour or catching a live performance of Ballet or the Sydney Symphony.
5 Romantic Spots in Sydney
Here's 5 romantic Sydney places to explore and enjoy. They're all easy to get to by bus or subway:
1. Coastal Walk from Bondi Beach to Coogee - this is a great romantic walk exploring 4 of Sydney's city beaches. The ocean views from the path along the clifftops are outstanding, and there's plenty of places to stop for a cappucino or a fish & chip picnic by the sea.
2. Royal Botanic Gardens - lots of lush vegetation, and some fine places to picnic, relax or get that picture of the two of you with the Opera House behind!
3. OpenAir Cinema - Sydney has a number of summertime outdoor movie screens, but this one in the Royal Botanic gardens is certainly one of the most romantic places in Sydney. Cuddle together under the moonlight watching a recent flick on a giant movie screen with the lights of the city and harbor twinkling in the background. Romantic and memorable!
4. Paddington - tree lined lanes of Victorian-era homes, galleries, trendy shops and great little neighborhood pubs.
5. Balmain - Another harbor-hugging "burb" with fine views of the city across the water. Strolling through the wharf area and checking out all the cafes and small eateries along Darling Street makes Balmain a great little excursion. Getting there is half the fun when you take the Hunters Hill ferry from downtown Sydney at Circular Quay.
Romantic Sydney Beaches
Bondi Beach - Bondi (pronounced Bond-eye) Beach is one of the most famous city beaches in the world. If you want a good beach and souvenir shops, restaurants, hotels and people-watching, Bondi's the place. For quieter and more romantic Sydney city beaches, try Tamarama or Coogee.
Manly - Just a 15 minute ferry ride from downtown with some must-try ethnic eateries and a nice wide, sandy beach.
Northern Beaches - further up the coast from the city, Beautiful Avalon and Palm Beaches enjoy fewer crowds, nice sand and some spectacular coastal settings.
More Sydney Attractions
- Darling Harbor - if you're downtown, it's easy to catch a ride on the monorail to Darling Harbor for entertainment, shopping, and lots of excellent restaurants, bistros and cafes.
- The Rocks - This is one of the most historic areas of Sydney. Other attractions include historic walks, shops, fine dining and outstanding views of the Harbour Bridge.
- Sydney Tower - See the whole city and harbor from the 250 meter-high observation deck! Restaurants, 3-D show and lots of shopping below.
- Best Places to Shop in Sydney - The Pitt Street Mall is good for all kinds of souvenirs, and the QVB (Queen Victorai Building) has to be one of the most attractive shopping arcades anywhere! For beach wear and accessories, we head for the
