The Best B&B's for Romance in Fredericksburg and New Braunfels, TX
Texas Hill Country is a terrific part of the state for holidays and getaways. You'll feel like your close to the heart of the Lone Star state here with wineries, historic spots, swimming holes, and charming towns and cities to explore. Distances are reasonable, and good, well-marked roads make scenic touring by car a pleasure.
This attractive region between Austin and San Antonio is also home to some outstanding Texas Hill Country bed and breakfast inns. Right in the heart of Hill Country is the small town of Fredericksburg. It’s an historic hamlet and a great place to start your romantic Hill Country getaway. Here's some options for accommodation we think you'll love...
The Inn on Barons Creek - this 90-room inn that has an almost "boutique hotel" feel to it. It features nine separate suites beside the creek and a huge Presidential Suite for those who really want to splurge. There is also an on-site spa for facials, massage and couple’s packages to help you relax together.
King Spa Tub Suites are available and the extended stay suites have a full kitchen. Couples love the fact that there is a pocket door between the bedroom and sitting area in the suites, so if the kids are along, you can still have some privacy and romantic time alone. The B&B style creek-side suites are for those over 18 and have whirlpool tubs and access to Baron’s Creek. Keep in mind that there are a few turkeys onsite, and may make an early morning wake-up call!
A complimentary full hot breakfast is served in the dining room each day, and there is also a fire pit, guest laundry and gift shop. A small heated salt water pool can be found outside and there is some creek-side seating and lounge areas as well. The fitness center is tiny, but adequate for a good workout if you so choose.
The location is convenient: it’s within walking distance to the main street of Fredericksburg and all its attractions. But there are no side-walks, so use caution if you decide to walk. If you arrive by car, the Inn on Baron’s Creek has plenty of free parking.
Magnolia House - The ever-popular Magnolia House B&B could quite possibly be the best Texas Hill Country bed and breakfast in 2015! (it's got sky-high approval ratings by couples you don't see every day) Built in a quiet residential neighborhood, just seven blocks from the main street back in 1923, this inn provides outstanding accommodation for travelers and those looking for a romantic Texas getaway in Fredericksburg.
The gourmet, two-course breakfasts are famous, the location is convenient, and the grounds, with koi pond and waterfall, are an ideal place to relax and unwind.
There are three guest rooms and two suites at the Magnolia. Some say the Magnolia Suite is most romantic, because of the wicker love seat outside on the covered porch. It’s beautiful, but I love the Bluebonnet suite with its tiny kitchen, charming little 40’s-era refrigerator and claw-foot tub. Both suites have private entrances and fireplaces and are located on the first floor.
Enjoy a complementary glass of wine outside each afternoon and sample the fresh baking provided daily. Then take a winery tour, have a round of golf, visit a spa or rent bikes and experience one of the many cycling trails around Fredericksburg.
Eden's Gate B&B - Since Fredericksburg is such an interesting little place to visit, you may want to stay in a B&B right in the heart of the historic downtown shopping district. If that’s the case, the Eden’s Gate might be just the thing for you. It’s a one-bedroom, one bath upstairs suite right on Main Street. Originally built in 1882, it was beautifully restored in 2002, and is a truly unique little spot for romance and fun.
Private garden and terrace, copper soaking tub big enough for two, kitchenette, decorative fireplace and breakfast coupons for a nearby cafe are some of the delights of staying at this adorable suite built just for two. And it’s located above the best kind of retail space: a candy shop! You’re also close to all kinds of fun stores, restaurants and attractions.
It’s very clean and surprisingly quiet at night, even during festival seasons. House-keeping in not provided, however. Note that on event weekends, a two-night minimum stay is required.
Gruene Mansion - This beautiful Victorian home, barns, corn crib, carriage house and other buildings have been restored and transformed into 30 individual units with private entrances and porches. They’re done in what is referred to as “Victorian Rustic Elegance” and date back to the area`s founding father, Henry Gruene who built them in 1872. It all sits on the banks of the Guadalupe River and is on the National Register of Historic places as well as being designated a Texas Historic Landmark.
Many of the romantic and luxurious rooms overlook the river. There is also a stand-alone cottage with private back porch and great views of the grounds. It`s all just perfect for a private getaway for two.
The Gruene Mansion has romantic or honeymoon “basket specials” that can be arranged in advance to make the getaway truly special. Have it waiting as a special surprise for your loved one when you arrive. Breakfast of course is included.

Gruene Apple Bed and Breakfast - In the New Braunfels area, the Greune Apple Bed and Breakfast is the only AAA Four-Diamond Inn. This luxury Texas Hill Country B&B is right on the Guadalupe River and convenient to many major areas of Central Texas.
The Gruene Apple boasts 14 themed rooms, many with jetted or antique soaker tubs, private balconies and fireplaces. I love the “Room with a View” suite, with its wall murals but others are popular as well. You’ll also find a cozy Great Room with large comfortable chairs and fireplace, a library and a Media Room. Here you can watch nightly movies on a 12-foot viewing screen as you relax in giant wingback swivel chairs. There is also a games room with billiard table, shuffle board and other games, or you may enjoy the music of the player piano in the lobby area. Complementary wine is offered each evening at 5:30.
The breakfast area is bright and cheerful and serves up a memorable gourmet breakfast buffet every morning from 8:30 to 9:30. Eat on the enclosed balcony outside or sit in the dining room to enjoy. An extensive sunroom runs across the back of the building on both floors.
Outdoors, you will enjoy the gazebo and pond as well as natural stone pool and hot tub. Or take a short walk down the path and have a swim in the Guadaloupe River if you prefer.
The location of the Gruene Apple is very convenient as it is within walking distance to the unique shops and restaurants of historic Gruene. A two night minimum stay is required on weekends. (1235 Gruene Road, New Braunfels)
